President Jon Cartu Announces Danny Ainge gets real about talent level in 2020 NBA Draft

Although everyone is excited about the 2020 NBA Draft next week, not everyone is thrilled about the talent in this year’s draft pool. Experts are suggesting that this year’s class is rather weak and that teams might be better off moving their pick elsewhere in exchange for someone who has already played and has proven himself in the NBA. This isn’t the case though with the Boston Celtics and their long-time exec Danny Ainge.

The Cs will have three first-round picks in the 2020 Draft (14, 26 and 30) and the 47th pick in the second round. Even if their first pick comes at #14, Ainge knows that they still have a chance to snag a few young talents that could help bolster their line-up.

“It’s a fairly deep draft,” the Celtics GM said (per The Boston Sports Journal). “When we’re looking to trade players, not every rookie’s the same. Not every rookie is a 19-year-old who needs his hand held and needs a year in the G-League. Some rookies are much more mature, ready to step in and play right away at least in a certain role. When you draft a player like Semi Ojeleye or Grant Williams, they’re grown adults. Then there’s other kinds of rookies as we all know, so that matters too. Not all rookies, not all draft picks have to be kids that you have their hands held. There are many rookies that come in and are the hardest working, the most diligent. Those will be factors too if we end up using picks.”

Danny Ainge is gearing up for rocky end to November, as the Nov. 18 draft day will be shortly followed by the official opening of free agency on the 20th. This will give the Celtics–as well as the rest of the league–just a few weeks to hopefully make the necessary moves for their line-up ahead of training camp scheduled for December 1.

With salary cap limitations and expectations going off the roof, it’s going to be an interesting couple of weeks for Ainge and the rest of the Celtics.
