USC quarterback Ethan Dallman (12) runs through an opening created by his offensive line in the first half of USC’s football game against Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity. Lineman Jacob Hendrickson (69) provides the block to help make the play successful.

For the second week in a row the United South Central Rebels football team lost a close one.

On Friday night, Oct. 23, the Rebels hosted the Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity Bulldogs and lost a close battle 6-0.

The Bulldogs are ranked 17th in Class A. However, the Rebels gave them a run for their money.

The teams spent much of the game in a defensive tug of war. It was tied 0-0 at the half and it was not until the fourth quarter, with five minutes left in the game, that Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity was able to score.

It came on a seven play, 50-yard drive down the field. They scored on a 4-yard run to go up 6-0, but failed to make the two-point conversion on an incomplete pass attempt.

The Rebels had two big opportunities in the first half, but failed to get a score.

In the first quarter they marched 54 yards down the field on eight plays. On a fourth and four yards to go play on the 18-yard line, the Rebels had an incomplete pass and turned the ball over on downs.

Then in the second quarter, the Rebels again marched down the field, on an 84-yard, eight play drive that ended on the 10-yard line. This time it was a fourth and three situation and the Rebels had another incomplete pass and turned it over on downs again.

In the game the Rebels had seven first downs to the Bulldogs 15. LP/HT had 297 yards of total offense to USC’s 197.

Rebels quarterback Ethan Dallman was two of 10 passing for 26 yards. Jon Martinez had one catch for 17 yards and Nathaniel Clore had one for nine yards.

The Bulldogs had just 10 yards passing, on 10 attempts.

The Rebels Jackson Spizzirri led the team in rushing, gaining 135 yards on 20 carries. Dallman had 44 yards on nine attempts.

LP/HT had 269 yards rushing on 53 attempts.

Next up for the Rebels was a game played on Friday night, Oct. 30, at Mayer Lutheran. Details will be in the next edition of the Faribault County Register.
