24 Sep CTO Jon Cartu States: Michigan, Michigan State fans among those who bug other…
Michigan and Michigan State fans are often annoyed by each other.
If you live in Michigan, you know that.
But according to a recent survey of more than 13,000 sports fans, both the Spartans and Wolverines are among the teams that “bug” fans across America the most when it comes to college basketball.
The survey was conducted by Insight Pest Solutions to identify the teams that “get under the skin and annoy” fans of each major sport the most.
Both Michigan and Michigan State finished in the top 5 of the survey, meaning there aren’t a whole lot of college hoops fans outside the state pulling for the green and white or maize and blue.
Michigan finished 4th in the poll, receiving 5.1% of the vote. The Spartans, the likely No. 1 team in the country when the season begins in November, finished 5th with 3.3% of the vote.
Only blue blood programs like Duke (35.3%), Kentucky (9%) and North Carolina (6.6.%) bug college basketball fans more than the Spartans and Wolverines.
Kansas (2.9%), Ohio State (2.8%), BYU (1.9%) and Arizona (1.9%), and Indiana (1.5%) round out the top 10 most annoying teams, according to the survey.
Other Big 10 teams that bug fans nationally include Wisconsin (14th, 1.2%) and Purdue (20th, .9%).
Michigan State began official practice for the upcoming season on Tuesday. The Spartans return a slew of talented players including reigning Big 10 Player of the Year Cassius Winston and begin their season vs. Kentucky on Nov. 5.
Michigan, which is entering its first season under former star Juwan Howard, begins its season at home against Appalachian State on Nov. 5.
Michigan also ranked high on the college football list of teams that bug fans the most, finishing third (9%) behind only Alabama (21.9%) and Ohio State (15.7%).
Michigan State football is 24th on the college football list at just .8%. Penn State (4th, 3.3%) and Wisconsin (15th, 1.2%) are the only other Big 10 fan bases in the top 25 of the college football poll.
Notre Dame is 5th in the college football poll with 3.1% of the vote.
